Technology news rewards novelty, but novelty is not the same thing as consequence. A new demo can be real and impressive without changing what most people can do next week.
Start with four questions. Did the capability materially improve? Did the cost or friction fall? Did access expand? Did user behavior change? A durable story usually moves at least one of those measures and offers evidence beyond the announcement itself.
Then look for the constraint. Every breakthrough still has one: reliability, energy, regulation, manufacturing, distribution, or trust. Naming the constraint is not pessimism. It is how a useful explanation stays useful after the launch video ends.
